Dress Code

To enhance a dynamic learning experience that encourages critical thinking, inspires confidence and nurtures the intellectual and social development necessary for success in college, career, and life, the following dress code applies to all scholars of Grand Prairie Collegiate Institute:

Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays

Scholars are expected to wear their black bottoms, polos, and black shoes (casual-may be black tennis shoes/sneakers). Shoes must be fully black.

Acceptable Tops:

  • Solid maroon, white, or black collared polo shirts (no t-shirts, no emblems other than school crest; no fitted shirts).
  • Black, white, grey, or maroon undershirts only. For cooler months, long sleeve undershirts may be worn under the polo shirt.
  • Outerwear (sweaters, sweatshirts, and jackets) must be fully black and have the GPCI logo/crest in order to be worn inside. *Please plan accordingly.
  • Shirts must be tucked into pants.

Acceptable Bottoms:

  • Appropriate fitting school uniform black pants.
  • Finger-tip length black or plaid (school colors) skirts.
  • Finger-tip length shorts (*Classified as walking shorts; purposefully longer cut).

No jeans (denim), jeggings, sweats, cargo pants, or athletic shorts.

No embellishments, embroidery, tags, etc.

Wednesdays (Optional)

A scholar may wear jeans and an AVID polo shirt. AVID polo shirts may be purchased on myschoolbucks.com. Outerwear (sweaters, sweatshirts, and jackets) must be fully black and maroon and have the GPCI logo/crest in order to be worn inside. *Please plan accordingly. Standard GPISD dress code for jeans and shoes will be followed.

Thursdays

All scholars will wear dress uniforms: black pants or skirts, embroidered oxford, professional ties/cross ties, leather belt (if applicable), and black dress shoes. If pants have belt loops, belts must be worn.

Young Ladies:

  • Uniform pants or uniform skirt with dress button down shirt. Button down shirt must have embroidered GPCI crest.
  • Cross tie or professional tie.
  • Dress shoes: closed toe; modest heel (optional), professional in style. No sneaker, canvas shoes, or combat boots.
  • Proper hosiery: socks in white, black, maroon (no over the knee/thigh), panty hose (professional pattern only; acceptable colors: black, white, maroon, grey).
  • Black leather belt if bottoms have loops.

Young Men:

  • Uniform pants with dress button down shirt. The button-down shirt must have embroidered GPCI crest. (May be long-sleeved or short-sleeved).
  • Professional tie/bow tie (solid or prints in school colors only: black, maroon, white, grey/silver).
  • Dress shoes: closed toe. Professional in style. No sneakers, canvas shoes or combat boots.
  • Socks (black, white, or maroon).
  • Black leather belt if bottoms have loops.

**Optional: High school scholars may wear a dress black blazer with the GPCI crest. If the blazer is worn, young men will need a black business tie.

Fridays (Spirit Days)

A scholar may wear jeans and a college shirt, a campus spirit shirt of his/her choosing, or the uniform polo. Outerwear (sweaters, sweatshirts, and jackets) must be fully black or maroon and have the GPCI logo/crest in order to be worn inside. *Please plan accordingly. Standard GPISD dress code for jeans and shoes will be followed.

The standard Monday - Wednesday school dress code will be followed for the first three (3) weeks of school to ensure that every scholar has a clear grasp of the expectations.

Free Dress Days

Specific criteria for free dress days will be outlined prior to the date. If a scholar chooses not to wear the specified Free Dress Day wear--then they will wear the defined uniform for that particular day of the week.

Outerwear:

  • Sweater vest and/or cardigan with the embroidered GPCI crest.
  • All black or maroon jackets must have the GPCI logo/crest to be worn inside. *Please planaccordingly.
  • Depending on weather, heavier jackets (non-uniform) may be worn to school; but must be removed upon entering the school building.

Accessories:

  • Students are required to wear a belt if the bottoms have loops.
  • Black leather belts on dress days with modest buckles. No character or unprofessional buckles.

Physical Education Uniforms

  • PE t-shirt and athletic shorts (uniform optional).
  • Comfortable tennis shoes (any color; may not be worn in hallways).
  • Appropriate socks.
  • Deodorant recommended. No body spray, please.

Cooler Months: A scholar may choose to wear solid color sweats OVER their PE uniform. They should be modest with no writing and in school colors only (maroon, black, white, and grey). They can come from any vendor. Please ensure they meet specifications (no stretch, yoga, or pajama pieces will be allowed).

Other: The following is unacceptable at GPCI

  • Disruptive make-up or hair styles/including but not limited to unnaturally dyed, colored, or painted hair, any hairstyle or form of attire which might infer gang affiliation.
  • Hair color must be of natural color (ie: Natural hair colors can be shades of black, blonde, brown, and red).
